My HP ENVY 5055 sees my wireless router, but will not connect to it.  Does not even prompt for the password.  Any thoughts anyone?  Thx

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Please check these details

- Ensure the printer and the Computer are connecting to the same wireless network.
-Note:- This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. Do not connect it to 5 GHz Network incase your Router supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz
- If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, then the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Thanks Krazy.  My desktop is connected to the printer by USB, as it is not wifi capable.  I need my printer to connect to wifi in order for it to connect to the internet to enable my Instant Ink subscription.  Without internet, my printer is effectively disabled.

My 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks have different names, and 5GHz is disabled anyway, so I don't think that's an issue.

Some people are suggesting resetting the modem/router (I have a Hitron) to factory settings.  As far as I know, mine is still set with the factory defaults.  Would you recommend resetting anyway?

Please try these steps

Restore the Printer's Network Settings

  1. From the home screen of your printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon .

  2. Touch the Setup icon .

  3. Touch Restore Network Defaults or Restore Network Settings, and then touch Yes to confirm your selection.

  4. After the default network settings are restored,

-Next Turn On the Printer's WiFi-Direct.

--->On your computer go to WiFi and connect it to your printer
--->Select your printer with DIRECT in the name from the list of available networks (example: DIRECT-74-HP Envy 5000).
--->Select the Wi-Fi Direct printer signal in Wi-Fi settings
--->If prompted for a password, type 12345678. This is the default password to log in.
--->Now open a browser and type 192.168.223.1 in the Address box on top
--->you will be able to access the printer's EWS page
--->on the page, you will find network - click on it
--->go to wireless and select wireless setup wizard
--->now select the network that you want your printer to connect to and type in the password wireless password

As I mentioned in my previous reply, my desktop comp is not wifi-capable.  It is connected to the printer by USB, and to my router by wire.  I just need the printer to be able to connect to wifi so it can access the Internet.

Because my comp is not wifi-capable, I tried following the steps you suggested, using my iPhone.  But it failed to connect to the DIRECT-FD-HP ENVY 5000 series wifi network, so I couldn't get to the EWS page.

One other note ... when I go thru the wifi setup wizard on the printer's control panel, it finds my wireless router, then displays a confirmation screen saying:

  Network: (my SSID)

  Security: No encryption

I believe my router is set for AES encryption.  Does the printer not recognize this?

Did you use the HP Smart app on your phone?

Meanwhile, I recommend you follow the steps in the below article to connect the printer to your wireless network using your phone.

Yes, I did use HP Smart on my iPhone.  I am able to send documents from my phone to the printer by connecting to the DIRECT-FD-HP... thing, but still cannot print because the printer cannot connect to my wifi router, and therefore, cannot access HP via the Internet to enable my Instant Ink subscription.  What I need help with is getting the printer to connect to the wifi router.

Follow the below steps and check if it helps.

1. On the printer control panel display, from the Home screen, touch ( Wireless ).

2. Touch ( Settings ).

3. Touch Wireless Setup Wizard or Wi-Fi Protected Setup.

4. Follow the display instructions to complete the setup.

If you continue facing the issue, then connect the printer using the USB cable and then convert it to wireless.

Refer to the below article for detailed steps.
