Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My Envy 4527 has suddenly stopped connecting via wi-fi. I've followed all the previous posts on resetting the connection and it tells me the connection has been made. When I try to print something it shows in the print queue but nothing happens. If I try to print again I get a message telling me there's a fault and 'file name' cannot be printed.

Just tried to print with a cable connection and this won't work either. Also tried other files and I get the same  error message Error Printing - couldn't print 'file name'.

Hi @Don1046,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can see how disappointing and frustrating this must be, watching jobs queue up but never print, even after reconnecting via Wi‑Fi or USB, feels like your printer is completely ghosted. Let’s walk through a clear, step-by-step troubleshooting plan to revive your HP Envy 4527 and get your documents printing again.

1. Restart Everything

Resetting all devices often clears hidden glitches:

  • Turn off the printer, router, and your computer.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then power them on in this order:
    1. Router
    2. Printer
    3. Computer
  • Confirm both the printer and your computer are connected to the same Wi‑Fi network (not DIRECT‑xx‑HP).

2. Reconnect Printer via Wireless Setup Wizard

On your printer:

  1. Go to Setup → Network Settings → Wireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Select your Wi‑Fi network and enter its password.
  3. Ensure the printer shows a steady blue light, indicating a solid connection.

3. Clear the Print Spooler & Factory Reset Driver

On Windows (similar utility on macOS):

  1. Open the print queue, then cancel all pending jobs to clear the backlog.
  2. Restart the Print Spooler service via Services.msc.
  3. Optionally, remove the printer driver entirely and reinstall using the full-feature HP driver/package from HP’s support site.

4. Use HP App

5. Re-add the Printer

  • In Devices & Printers (Windows) or Printers & Scanners (macOS), remove the Envy 4527.
  • Re-add it via Wi‑Fi (not USB) using the latest driver or HP app.
  • This ensures proper two-way communication with your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
