This printer keeps dropping the WiFi connection about once a week or so. This is really tiresome and I can only solve it each time by installing it as a 'new' printer.
HP claims to be a sophisticated company, but this three year old printer can't perform the basics of a printer and...print.
Rather than provide a solution to my need of printing, they have built a frustration machine!
Could this be because they are trying to manufacture a device that has bells and whistles but is too delicate for the boring, basic, everyday job of printing simple text onto paper? I mean this as a serious question not a flippant insult.
Are they pricing these printers too cheaply perhaps, because they perceive initial cost as a barrier to a sale? Thereby making a machine of cheap components that isn't robust enough for daily use?
If anyone from HP replies to this could they please avoid the template response of turning it off and on/checking WiFi router etc. etc. I know all that and your machine still goes offline randomly.
If anyone else replies ...do you have a solution?
Many thanks

Hi @ManhattanMike, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I hear your frustration—having to reinstall a printer just to get it back online is beyond annoying. The HP Envy 6030e is part of the Instant Ink-compatible, budget-friendly lineup, and while it’s meant to be user-friendly, connectivity issues like this can be a dealbreaker.
Here’s a deeper dive into possible causes and fixes beyond the usual "turn it off and on again":
Potential Causes & Fixes
1️⃣ Dynamic vs. Static IP Address
- Many HP printers default to a dynamic IP, meaning your router may assign a different address after some time, causing it to drop off the network.
✅ Solution: Assign a static IP to the printer via your router’s settings or from the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
2️⃣ Sleep Mode Issues
- Some HP printers enter sleep mode and fail to reconnect properly.
✅ Solution: Disable Auto-Off or Sleep Mode in printer settings.
3️⃣ Wi-Fi Band Steering Confusion
- If your router has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, the printer might get confused and disconnect.
✅ Solution: Either disable 5GHz (not ideal) or separate the SSIDs so the printer always connects to 2.4GHz.
4️⃣ HP Smart App / Web Services Interference
- If Web Services (HP Smart / Instant Ink) is glitching, it might be affecting connectivity.
✅ Solution: Try disabling Web Services in the printer’s settings and see if the issue persists.
5️⃣ Firmware / Router Settings
- Some routers have power-saving settings that may be cutting off the printer.
✅ Solution: Check your router’s Wi-Fi settings and update printer firmware via HP website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
