M281cdw
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

My 281cdw started resetting itself. I can get it to stop by quickly disabling WiFi. Once a network connection starts it begins to cycle with continual resets. I have tried the suggested solutions of rebooting the router, and turning ip6 off. I also tried connecting Ethernet. I can't get it to stabilize. I also would try a factory reset if I could find that information on how to do it.  Any ideas?

I contacted the seller. He helped me get it going again. Here is what you have to do:

M281CDW Factory Reset

  1. Turn off printer
  2. Hold finger on the bottom right corner of the LCD screen.
  3. Turn on printer.
  4. When screen begins to scroll remove finger.
  5. Reconfigure WiFi, etc.

Same issue. Reboots if I turn on the wifi or plug in the network cable. IPV6 is turned off. Can't check for an update because it requires network access.

Especially if this just started happening within the past day or two, it's probably related to Google Cloud Print. See this comment for more details if you're curious (the solution for us was to restore the printer to defaults, which disabled Google Cloud Print): https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printers-Knowledge-Base/Error-79-on-HP-Color-LaserJet-Pro-M280-M281-Mu...

Jeff's answer worked for me. I guess I must've previously set up Google Cloud Print.

My successful actions to correct:

-Turn off router

-restart printer

-Setup -> Service -> Restore Defaults

-restart router

-everyone's happy
