I have a new Desktop 2800. I installed it via printers @ Scanners and it works fine.

When I try to add printer in HP Smart on PC and on 2 android phones I get message "Unable to connect printer to network". Error code: -9

What should I do?

The problem on the android devices is a bug in the HP Smart software. You must first sign-in in your HP account before adding printers. Once signed-in you can add a printer without problems. There is no message saying that you have to first sign-in, neither is the add printer button greyed out. So that is VERY misleading.

I also solved the problem with HP Smart on PC. Apparently, the printer was not on the same network (I suspect HP Smart on android that uses a special temporary network to connect to printer, to not reset printer to original network).

I see you need help with the E9 error.  Please follow the instructions below.

 

Open and close the printhead access door

Follow the instruction on the Ink System Maintenance Page to resolve the error.

Remove the Ink System Maintenance Page from the output tray.

Lower the output tray extender, and then push the output tray into the printer.

Open the front door.

Open the printhead access door completely, and then close the door.

Note:

HP recommends you open and close the printhead access door 3-4 times to remove any ink buildup and maintain the best print quality.

Pull out the output tray, and then lift the tray extender.

I do NOT have problems with an E9 error. As stated in my first conversation I have an error -9 when I try to add my printer to HP Smart on 2 different android phones.

Error is -9, not E9

Thank you for your response,The error code -9 in HP Smart typically indicates a connectivity issue between the printer and your network. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this:

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your desktop and phones. You can usually check this from the printer's settings or display panel.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your printer, desktop, and phones. Sometimes a simple restart can fix connectivity issues.

Reboot Your Router:

  • Unplug your router, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. This can refresh your network connection.

Update HP Smart App:

  • Make sure the HP Smart app on your PC and Android devices is up to date. Check the app store for updates.

Use the HP Smart App Setup:

  • Open the HP Smart app and use the “Add Printer” feature. Follow the prompts carefully to connect your printer.

Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the HP Smart app or the printer.

Reset Network Settings on Printer:

  • If the printer has a reset option for network settings, try resetting it and then reconnecting it to the Wi-Fi network.

Manually Connect Printer to Wi-Fi:

  • You can connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network manually through the printer’s control panel. Look for a Wi-Fi setup option and follow the instructions.

Use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):

  • If your router supports WPS, you can press the WPS button on the router and then select the WPS option on the printer to connect.

Check for Software Updates:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check this through the printer's control panel or the HP support website.
