My Photosmart 7520 throws out a message when printing the first document after a restart. It says something like Error Printing. However the print continues to completion. Subsequent prints then do not cause the message to appear.
Hardly critical but I am just wondering what causes it.
Thanks

Hi @Trevor542,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
This issue with your HP Photosmart 7520 printer might be caused by a few different factors. Here are some common reasons and potential solutions.
Possible Causes
- Driver Issues: Sometimes, printer drivers can become outdated or corrupted. This can cause various issues, including error messages during printing.
- Spooling Problems: The print spooler service, which manages print jobs, might be having trouble initializing correctly on startup.
- Firmware Bugs: Occasionally, printer firmware may have bugs that cause unexpected behavior on the first print job after a restart.
- Connection Issues: The initial communication between the printer and the computer might be experiencing minor issues that are resolved once the first print job is completed.
- Software Conflicts: Other software running on your computer could be interfering with the printing process when the printer is first initialized.
Potential Solutions
Update Printer Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your Photosmart 7520 printer.
- Install the drivers and restart your computer and printer.
Restart the Print Spooler:
- On Windows, you can restart the print spooler service by opening the Services application (services.msc), finding the "Print Spooler" service, and restarting it.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check for firmware updates for your printer on the HP Support website.
- Follow the instructions to update the firmware.
Check Connections:
- Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or network.
- If using a network connection, make sure the printer is connected to the network and has a stable IP address.
Disable Startup Programs:
- Try disabling unnecessary startup programs on your computer to see if that resolves the issue.
- On Windows, you can do this via the Task Manager under the "Startup" tab.
Reinstall Printer Software:
- Uninstall the current printer software from your computer.
- Download and install the latest version from the HP Support website.
Additional Steps
If the issue persists, you might want to check the printer's event logs for more specific error codes or messages. These can sometimes provide additional insight into what might be causing the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
