Hi @Detzer,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing an issue where your HP ENVY 5540 All-In-One Printer is displaying a "door is open" error message even when it's closed, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check for Obstructions: Ensure that there are no obstructions or foreign objects near the door or within the printer that may be triggering the sensor. Make sure the paper path is clear as well.
  • Inspect the Door Sensor: The printer likely has a sensor that detects whether the door is open or closed. Inspect the sensor for any visible damage or debris. If there is any debris, carefully clean it using a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Update Firmware/Software: Ensure that your printer's firmware and software are up to date. Visit the HP support website and download the latest firmware and drivers for your printer model.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, wait for a few minutes, and then reconnect the power cord. Power on the printer and check if the error persists.
  • Reset the Printer: Perform a power reset by unplugging the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet. Wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging it back in. Power on the printer and check if the issue is resolved.
  • Check Door Alignment: Ensure that the printer doors are properly aligned and securely closed. Sometimes, misalignment can trigger false door-open errors.

Remember to refer to your printer's user manual or documentation for specific instructions related to your model. If you don't have the manual, you can usually find it on the HP website by searching for your printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
