Hi @NEMorley,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing an issue where your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e printer displays the error message "Looking for printer" directly after successfully printing a document, there are several potential reasons for this problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check Printer Connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your Mac and that the connection is stable. If you are using a USB cable, make sure it is securely plugged into both the printer and your computer. If you are using a wireless connection, ensure that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This simple step can sometimes resolve communication issues between the printer and your computer.
  • Restart Your Mac: Restarting your Mac can also help in resolving connectivity issues. After restarting, try printing a document again and see if the problem persists.
  • Check Printer Queue: Open the print queue on your Mac to ensure that there are no pending print jobs or any stuck print jobs. If there are, try canceling them and then attempt to print again.
  • To access the print queue, go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners," select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e from the list, and click on the "Open Print Queue" button.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your Mac. Visit the HP support website to download and install the latest drivers for your specific printer model.
  • Reset Printing System: If the issue persists, you may want to reset the printing system on your Mac. This will remove all printers from the list, and you'll need to re-add them.
  • To reset the printing system, go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners," right-click on the list of printers, and choose "Reset printing system." Confirm the action and then re-add your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e.
  • Check for Software Updates: Ensure that your Mac is running the latest version of macOS Ventura. Updates may include improvements and bug fixes that could address printing issues.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the "Looking for printer" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
