Hi, My printer is displaying a blue screen with the start icon and then the numbers/ letters 007C9C98. This has never come up before. I've unplugged everything several times and and the same display just returns. Anyone ever come across this and what it means? Anything I can do to fix?

Hi @RE0728,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code 007C9C98 on an HP printer typically indicates a serious hardware or firmware issue. Since you've already tried unplugging and restarting the printer multiple times, it seems the problem is persistent. Here are some potential steps you can try.
Hard Reset the Printer
- Unplug the printer from the power outlet and disconnect any other cables.
- Wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in.
- Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds while plugging it back in to perform a hard reset.
- Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.
Firmware Update (if possible)
- If the printer allows any functionality before displaying the error, try updating the firmware.
- Check for any firmware updates on HP’s official website using your printer model.
- If the printer can connect to Wi-Fi, some models allow updates directly from the printer settings.
Check the Power Supply
- Ensure the power source is stable and not fluctuating. Use a different outlet to see if the issue could be power-related.
Factory Reset (if accessible)
- If you can still navigate some basic menus, you may find an option to restore factory settings, which could reset the error.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
