Hi all …… I have existing Hp2800e with instant ink account etc …..I have just changed my router and WiFi supplier for a much cheaper deal……every other device in the household changed over easy…
But do I have to “add another device “ on my hp app to get the existing printer running again …and if so how do I keep the continuity on my instant ink account…..or is there another easier fix.
Best Regards

I understand you changed your Wi-Fi router and now your existing DeskJet 2800e won’t reconnect, and you want to keep your Instant Ink account active. Let’s go through a few steps to get the printer back online without losing anything.
Put the printer into Wi-Fi setup mode
• Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until it starts blinking.
• This clears the old router information and makes the printer ready to join a new network.
Reconnect using the HP Smart app
• Open HP Smart → tap Add Printer.
• It will detect the same 2800e in setup mode.
• Select your new Wi-Fi and enter the password.
(Don’t worry — adding it here does NOT create a new Instant Ink account.)
Instant Ink stays linked automatically
• Your subscription is tied to the printer’s serial number, not the Wi-Fi.
• As soon as the printer goes online, it reconnects to your existing Instant Ink plan.
Make sure the router has 2.4 GHz enabled
• The 2800e cannot connect to 5 GHz–only networks.
• Ensure your new router broadcasts a 2.4 GHz SSID.
Restart both devices if connection fails
• Turn the printer off → unplug for 15 seconds → restart.
• Restart the router as well for a clean sync.
Print the Network Report to confirm
• Press the Information (i) button + Wi-Fi button together.
• Check if the report shows “Connected.”
I hope this helps.
