Edits - @ShlomiL is right, of course.

It is the Warranty that is likely expired.

If this is your printer

Then

It's just a really old printer.

Just the Warranty is expired

The hardware warranty that comes with a device (printer or computer) is typically one year from original purchase - some high end printers / computers come with a longer warranty.

There is still printer software available for it:

Hopefully, Dad gave you the USB cable that connects the printer to the computer.

Download and Save the installation package:

HP Photosmart C5200 series Full Feature Software and Drivers

Basics - Uninstall / Install the printer software

NOTE:  First time, ignore the "uninstall" part since you don't yet have the software on your computer...

Uninstall the (existing) printer software from Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

Next...

BEFORE you install the printer software, disconnect the USB cable from between the printer and the computer.

Next

  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the software installation package (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Reminder:  If using USB > Connect the USB cable when instructed (toward the end of the installation)
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Hi,

What is your printer model?

How old is the printer? The manufacturing warranty is usually a 1-year warranty so you may het a warranty expired message.
