Hi @Hairdesignr

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've forgotten the password for your printer (especially the Wi-Fi password for connecting to the network or the admin password for accessing settings), don't worry! Here are a few solutions to help you regain access to your printer:

1. Reset Printer's Network Settings (Wi-Fi Password Reset)

If you've forgotten the Wi-Fi password used for connecting the printer to your network, you can reset the network settings on the printer itself. This will allow you to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network with a new password.

Steps to reset network settings:

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Look for a Wi-Fi button or Settings option on the printer control panel.
  3. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button for about 5-10 seconds until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking, or look for an option to Reset Network Settings (this might vary depending on your printer model).
  4. This will reset the printer’s network settings, erasing the saved Wi-Fi settings (including the forgotten password).
  5. Once reset, the printer will be ready to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.
    • You can now use the printer's control panel or the WPS method (if supported by your router) to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi with the correct password.

WPS Method (for Wi-Fi setup, if supported):

  1. Press the WPS button on your router.
  2. Within 2 minutes, press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the light flashes.
  3. Wait for the printer to connect to the Wi-Fi.

2. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings (Admin Password Reset)

If you've forgotten the admin password used to access the printer's settings, you can reset the printer to its factory default settings. This will erase all settings, including any custom configurations, so it should be a last resort if other methods don't work.

To perform a factory reset (this may vary by model):

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Find the Settings or Menu button on the printer’s control panel.
  3. Navigate to Settings > Restore Defaults or Factory Reset (this option may vary depending on your printer model).
  4. Confirm that you want to reset the printer to factory defaults. This will erase all personalized settings, including the password, and return the printer to its original factory settings.

Once the printer is reset, you can go through the initial setup again, including setting up the Wi-Fi password and printer settings.

3. Find Default Passwords (for HP Printers)

Some HP printers have a default admin password. If your printer was never customized or if it was just purchased, the password might still be the factory default.

  • For many HP printers, the default admin password is often "admin" or "1234". Try these if you're having trouble accessing the printer's settings.

4. Use the Printer's Control Panel or HP Smart App

If you're trying to reset the password for connecting to a network and are unable to do it via the printer's panel, try the HP Smart app:

  • Download the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer (available for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android).
  • HP Smart can help with managing your printer, setting up Wi-Fi, and may allow you to reset or reconnect the printer to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Open the app and follow the instructions for connecting your printer to a new network or resetting the Wi-Fi settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
