We have an HP office jet pro 6970 but my question is more general.  When trying to get our computer online it asks for password.  They say the password I have is not correct but I see no process for forgotten password to change it.  That is what I am looking for

Hi @Sue4105,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer's connectivity!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Identify the Correct Network Name and Password:

  • Ensure that you are trying to connect to the correct WiFi network.
  • Double-check your WiFi password by looking at the router or extender sticker, if available. Some routers or extenders print the default WiFi password on a label attached to the device.

Access Router Settings:

  • If you have access to your router or extender's settings page, you can retrieve your WiFi password from there.
  • Typically, you can access the settings page by entering the router's IP address (often like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) into the browser's address bar.
  • Look for the WiFi settings section to find the SSID (network name) and WiFi password. You may need to log in using the admin credentials for your router (often found on the device).

Reset WiFi Password on Router/Extender:

  • If you cannot retrieve the existing WiFi password, you might need to reset it within the router's settings.
  • On the router's admin page, you can change the WiFi password. After changing it, all devices need to be reconnected using the new password.

Perform a Factory Reset on Extenders/Router:

  • If you have trouble accessing the settings, a factory reset on the WiFi extender or router can help. Keep in mind this resets all configurations to default, including network settings.
  • The reset button is usually located on the back of the router or extender (consult the user manual for guidance).

Network Name and Password Confirmation:

  • Once you've confirmed the network settings, ensure you enter the network name (SSID) and password correctly. These are case-sensitive, so verify capitalization and symbols.

Reconnecting the Printer to the Network:

  • After confirming or resetting the network password, follow the instructions to reconnect your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 to the network via its control panel or using the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.
