Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

It will print and scan with USB cable, but not wireless. It syddenly stopped working this week.  The message reads, "Connection to the internet was not found. ... "     Do they mean the printer connection or the computer connection?  My computer works fine except for the printer.   The printer will tell me the I P address, signal strength, etc. , so the printer connection is not lost.

Sometimes  it will try for 30 minutes to find the fix.   Maybe it is because I am using a non-H-P ink cartridge?

I printed the wireless network test results page from the printer control panel.  Everything passed the tests.  It knows my SSID and seems good.

But when I try to scan, "The H-P Officejet Pro 8710 was not found."

@Gene-fixer, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Officejet Pro 8710!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

From what you've described — strong signal, valid IP, passing network tests — the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi. That “Connection to the internet was not found” message usually refers to the printer’s access to the internet, not your computer’s.

That said, if you’re unable to scan wirelessly, it’s likely the printer and computer aren’t talking properly on the network. This might be due to a firewall block or a glitch in HP software rather than the non-HP ink. Ink doesn’t affect Wi-Fi connectivity — so you’re safe there.

Here’s a quick fix to try:

Restart everything – the printer, your router, and your computer.

Open the HP Smart app and try re-adding the printer.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you for answering.  I did try turning everything off and back on. No luck. Then, the printer worked with the USB cable.  Then it stopped working even with the USB cable. I think my printer has a hardware problem. It might need a new main logic board. I gave up on it for now.
