Hi BruceF49,
There is no Wi-Fi Direct icon or LED on this printer. However the status of Wi-Fi Direct is shown on the Info page, just press the i button.
The info page will show which firmware version your printer is currently running. Could you share which firmware version is shown?
I think you are trying to update to the latest firmware using Wi-Fi Direct like I mentioned earlier. The detailed steps for this would be:
1. Download the firmware update utility from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-2700-all-in-one-printer-series/29378157/...
2. Print (or reference a previous copy) of the Printer Information Page. This page will have the Wi-Fi Direct Name and Wi-Fi Direct Password for your printer.
3. Connect your PC to the printer's Wi-Fi Direct network, like this:
If it asks for a PIN, click "use a security key instead"
Now that it is showing "Enter network security key", enter the Wi-Fi Direct password shown on the Printer Information Page
After the connection is successful, run the Firmware Update utility that you downloaded earlier and follow the prompts to complete the firmware update process for your printer.
I think there is a good chance that the issue you are running into with the BGW320-505 router can be solved with the latest printer firmware.

I am running into the issue of the firmware updater saying
"Cannot update the device - This Firmware Updater does not contain upgrades for your device."
Not sure where to go from there...
I am having the same issue - HP smart on my phone doesn't detect my WiFi Network, and HP Smart on my Mac tells me there is an error in connecting, but it DOES show my network.. at a total loss.
