Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

I use my HP 6000 printer occasionally, once or twice a week. Seems usually to be offline.  As far as I can tell, nothing has happened to cause this.  Certainly nothing I have done.  Really a pain to again get it back in operation.  What can I do to prevent this frustrating issue? I wish it was not "smart".

Welcome to the HP English Community --

Several printers identify as "HP 6000".

Examples - "Offline" - A printer might fall off the network for one or more of:

  • The printer's router assigned DHCP "rental" of the IP is outdated.  Possible Solution > Assign a manual / static IP address on both router and printer

  • The "configured for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz" router suddenly changes the frequency -- The printer might fall off the network without a way (instructions) to find and reconnect to that network. Possible Solution >  1)  Check that the router is set up to broadcast all frequencies it supports.  2)  Assign a manual / static IP Address for the printer on both router and printer.   3) Where supported, separate the SSID named networks on the router - One SSID named network for 2.4GHz and another SSID named network for 5GHz.  Connect the printer to the SSID named network you want the printer to use.

  • Distance, Obstacles -- Also attributed to Wireless connections, the location of the router as compared to the location of the printer is important.

    In general,

    • 2.4GHz is less fussy about obstacles and supports a longer distance (separation) between router and device (printer)
    • 5GHz is faster
  • Which Frequency / Band? If the printer won't work or cannot connect to your 5GHz SSID named network, connect to the 2.4GHz network.

Example - Embedded Web Server - EWS - IPv4

EWS > HP Document / How-to (original format)

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

Ethernet

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wired (802.3) > IPv4 Configuration

Wireless

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration

As Available:

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > Advanced

Network Interface on / off, Network SSID name, Security Settings, Passphrase / Password

Select and connect to the correct SSID / network name for the bandwidth you are using.

Note:   It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.

Thank you Dragon-Fur,  but your reply proves my point. Should I deal with these many  "smart" wi-fi issues or just expend 30 seconds to use a usb connection or a thumb drive?
