We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

On 31 Oct 2025 I changed router from and Eero to a Talktalk one which has worked well for a year or so but on reconnecting everything the only device that did not connect was the HP printer.  It switches on and copies etc but no connection to wifi.  None of the suggested remedies works.

Hi @Ryeprint,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Smart Tank 6020 printer keeps dropping its Wi-Fi connection after changing your router. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and help get it reconnected.

Restart Devices

Turn off your printer, router, and computer.

Wait for about 30 seconds, then turn the router on first, followed by the printer and computer.

This helps refresh the network and clear any temporary connection issues.

Check Wi-Fi Band Compatibility

The HP Smart Tank 6020 supports only the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band.

Ensure your TalkTalk router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network and that your printer is connecting to that—not the 5 GHz one.

You can check this in your router settings or on the network name (SSID) — 2.4 GHz often has no “5G” in the name.

Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wi-Fi button until the blue light starts flashing.

Then, press and hold the WPS button on your router for 3–5 seconds until the printer connects (the blue Wi-Fi light will stop blinking and stay on).

If your router doesn’t support WPS, use the HP Smart App on your phone or laptop to set up Wi-Fi again.

Forget and Re-add the Printer

On your computer, go to Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners.

Remove (forget) the HP 6020 printer.

Then, open the HP Smart App and click Add Printer to reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.

Assign a Static IP Address

Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing its IP address (shown on the printer’s wireless summary page) into your browser.

In Network → Wireless → IPv4 Configuration, set a Manual IP.

This prevents your router from frequently changing the printer’s IP address, which can cause connection drops.

Update Firmware

Using the HP Smart App, check for and install any available firmware updates for your printer.

Firmware updates often include fixes for wireless stability issues.

Move Printer Closer to Router

Ensure your printer is within 6–8 feet of the router, with minimal walls or interference (microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) between them.

I hope this helps.

Thank  you for responding to my request for help.   However, as the problem had been with me for so long I decided to abandon wifi  and use a usb connection instead.  I have done that and now have a perfectly working  printer.

 Many regards -Ryeprint
