Ex8600 PlusPro, ENVY x360 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Added ENVY x360 Convertible laptop to local network with 8600 Plus Pro.  New HP computer apparently updated printer which immediately stopped printing because of non HP cartridges. Until now, the 8600 was a super printer because I avoided printer updates. I would like to continue using my printer. How do I restore its functionality?

Hi @Palin1,

I'd like to help!

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why its not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Software/firmware/drivers say none are required for my 8600 Plus/Pro using the machine's serial on the HP site. The four carts that were in my 8600 instantly stopped when my new HP Envy x360 convertibel was setup & installed on my local network with the "HP Smart" program. The fact that all four were stopped at that point was troublesome. I understand that encoded chips serve a purpose but they can often be in conflict with users like me. The 8600 is an excellent, full service machine that provides great printing despite being classified as obsolete in the trade. I might try one of the many resets in the machine to start over and look for some affordable cartridges.  Or, maybe find a different lap top?

Jay-G24--thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated!

I'd recommend checking if the standalone copy works before replacing the computer or the cartridge.

Hope this helps!

My 8600 pro (N911g) has somewhere crossed over to 8500 Pro (A909g). Probably due to mismatched firmware /software ? What is the best way to reset it back to its 8600 status? Uploads were done automatically by HP and need to be restored or reset.
