I posted this further down the thread... but so far it works for me....

I found a reply somewhere on this site that seems to solve the problem.

Use the HP Smart App on your computer.

From  main menu select Printer Settings then

Advanced Settings, then

Settings, then

Security, then

Administrator Settings.

Uncheck the box marked "All Firmware Updates" (near the bottom of list) and then

Click Apply.

No further problems ... Not sure who originally wrote this, but hats off to them....!

Glad some people can turn off updates.  When I looked yesterday, that option was greyed out.  "Automatic" was selected and noted as "Required".  I am not, and have never been subscribed to Instant Ink, so don't feel like that's why.  Unfortunately, now the HP Smart App says there's a problem with the Advanced settings and I can't even open that page anymore.  I've resorted to only turning on the printer when I need to use it and immediately turning it off again.

I'm not subscribed to instant ink either. Possibly, the fact that the Smart App says there is a problem with Advanced Settings is a good thing. It didn't say that to me. Hopefully a fix is in the works.

HP is having issues on their end. I called yesterday and today to have them access my computer/printer because I lost my WIFI. They can NOT do any remote connections as of yesterday and today so it's a mess. I can print directly from my printer but not from my computer and only they can remotely get my WIFI back on y computer. It's a HOT mess 😞

There is no "Advanced Settings" in my version of HP Smart.

Ok, when I clicked on the printer image it took me to the full settings page, but when I used the button [Printer Settings] it didn't show the advanced settings.

All I can say is that it was there when I tried it. I don't doubt HP is changing some things trying to solve this issue... I hope.,

Yep,, I went into HP Smart and selected "Printer Settings", then selected "advanced settings" and got a message that says:

"Can't open printer home or EWS page."

"This feature is not available."

Obviously, HP has changed those features.... it worked for me...

I can verify JimDuhBear's method worked on my 9010.  I was not able to use the settings part on HP Smart on my PC, it complained about either not being HTTPS or certificates, I was able to use the one on my iPhone, but still had to tell the browser I knew using the printers internal web server was ok.

I am a Instant Ink subscriber so I was surprised this worked. The normal way to turn off updates is grayed out.

Anyhow the problem still exists, this is a workaround. The printer is a few years old so I don't suspect new updates will fix anything, it's probably related to Instant Ink and the ongoing battle against 3rd party ink.  I just want the printer to work 🙂

JimDuhBear... Thank you!  Your solution worked for me yesterday.
