HP DeskJet 2636 All-in-One Printer

Can’t get my phone to connect to my hp desk jet 2636 printer network. My printer is connected to the same wifi as my phone. I’ve reset and updated everything but I am still having issues. On the HP smart app it says my printer is ready, but in my phone settings it will not connect to my printer. The password will not work. In need of help ASAP

Hi @JoJo2521,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 2636 printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone, but you're still having trouble connecting, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Printer Status: Ensure that the printer shows as “Ready” on its display. If not, power it off and then back on.

Network Connection:

  • Make sure your printer is connected to the Wi-Fi network correctly. You can print a network configuration page directly from the printer to confirm its connection.
  • If the printer is connected via Wi-Fi Direct, ensure that your phone is connected to the printer’s Wi-Fi network, and not your home Wi-Fi.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi:

  • On the printer, press the Wi-Fi button and the cancel button at the same time until the power light starts flashing. This puts the printer in Wi-Fi setup mode.
  • Open the HP Smart app on your phone and follow the prompts to reconnect your printer to the Wi-Fi network.

HP Smart App Setup:

  • In the HP Smart app, make sure you're using the correct network. If the app shows the printer as ready, tap on it and check the settings to ensure it's using the correct Wi-Fi network.
  • If it still doesn’t connect, try removing the printer from the app and re-adding it.

Wi-Fi Password:

  • Ensure you are entering the correct Wi-Fi password. You might want to try typing it out again to avoid any typos.
  • Check that the Wi-Fi network isn't using special characters in the password that might be causing issues.

Phone Settings:

  • On your phone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure Wi-Fi is enabled.
  • Forget the printer's Wi-Fi network if it's showing in the list, then try connecting again through the HP Smart app.

Firewall or Security Software: If you have security software installed on your network, check if it may be blocking connections to the printer.

Software Updates: Ensure that both your printer firmware and the HP Smart app are up to date.

Factory Reset: If all else fails, you can reset the printer to factory settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
