HP DeskJet 2640 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Whenever I went to connect my printer to my computer, I properly installed the HP Smart app and went through the steps provided. However, when I got to the "Installing Printer" section, it loads for about 5 minutes and then tells me to add the printer to my computer through the "Printer & Scanners" section of my computer. Whenever I try to add my HP DeskJet 2640, it says "That didn't Work" and doesn't give me a reason why and tells me to check with the manufacturer. I'm not sure what to do.

You have one of these two printers

2640 Ink Advantage or
2640

I suspect the printer was not connect to the  modem and that is why the PC cannot find it

These videos may help

Video for 2640 is here

in the event you need to reset the printer, watch this video.
Works for 2630, 2631, 2632, 2633, 2634, 2635, 2636, 2640

If you ever connect the printer with a USB cable you may need to reset it to kick it out of USB mode.  I suspect pulling the USB cable out will not make any difference.

setup using wps or the push button method is described on page 62.

Page 65 discusses wifi direct.  This is useful if there is no modem or you do not want to give someone access to your modem but you want to let them print something.

Let me know if you have a flex system (WiFi boosters or repeaters) as the setup is much more complicated.
