So I just replaced the black ink cartridge and my printer printed the alignment page so it seems like the printer isn’t broken in that sense so that’s good.
I have it connected to my laptop via USB. When I select “print” my laptop shows the printer’s status changes from “idle” to “in use” back to “idle” all in like 1 second with nothing being printed. I don’t see any error lights, ink amounts look good. I have no idea why this thing just won’t print the document I have selected. Any help appreciated.

Hi @UghFrustration,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that is not printing after replacing the ink cartridge.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day

Regarding the test page- I was able to successfully print a test page so that is good.
The options for possibly addressing firmware doesn't work though. The HP Smart App basically only allows connections through Wifi and Ethernet (and this printer can't connect to either), can't update the firmware from the printer as it has none of the buttons those directions talk about, and lastly there aren't most recent firmware options for Mac OS only up to 10.9 which was a while ago.
Any other possible fixes?
