Hi @shanmu45,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your HP DeskJet printer is showing as offline and you're encountering an error stating "we're having a technical issue and could not complete setup," you can try the following troubleshooting steps:
Check Printer Connection:
- Ensure your printer is turned on and properly connected to the network or your computer.
- If using a USB connection, ensure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer.
- If using a wireless connection, ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
Restart Devices:
- Restart your printer, computer, and router. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
Set Printer Online:
- On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP DeskJet printer from the list.
- If the printer status is "Offline," right-click on the printer and select Reset printing system. Then, add the printer again.
Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Enter your printer model and download the latest drivers and software for your printer.
- Follow the installation instructions and try setting up the printer again.
Use HP Smart App:
- Download and install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.
- Open the HP Smart app and try setting up your printer through the app. The app often provides guided steps to resolve connectivity and setup issues.
Check Network Settings:
- Ensure your printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
- On the printer control panel, navigate to the wireless settings menu and check the network connection.
- If necessary, reconnect the printer to the Wi-Fi network.
Disable VPN and Firewall:
- If you are using a VPN or firewall, temporarily disable them to see if they are causing the issue.
- Try setting up the printer again with the VPN and firewall disabled.
Update Firmware:
- Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates on the HP Support website.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Although primarily for Windows, if you have access to a Windows PC, you can download and use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix common setup issues.
Manual IP Address:
- Assign a static IP address to your printer. This can help maintain a stable connection.
- Access the printer's embedded web server by entering the printer's IP address into a web browser.
- Navigate to the network settings and manually set a static IP address.
- Reset Network Settings:
- Reset the printer's network settings to default and try reconnecting to the Wi-Fi network.
- This option is usually available in the wireless settings menu on the printer control panel. If these steps do not resolve the issue, let's try a full reset.
The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.
I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
