Can the HP Deskjet 4122e be connected to the USB port of a router instead of using wifi to connect to the home network?

Welcome to the HP English Community --

 

The USB port on the router does not provide the printer any way to connect to the computer it needs for this type of connection.

If you want / need a way to use Wireless but cannot for any reason use standard Wi-Fi as controlled by your router / network, the printer does support Wi-Fi Direct.

 

Wi-Fi Direct uses the printer's own wireless radio to connect to your computer.
