Hi - I have a HP Deskjet 4123e that I m trying to connect via USB cord (Win 11). The printer gets found when I go to printer settings, then is not accepting the pin. Thanks.

Hi @MelJ5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP DeskJet 4123e is not connecting via USB to your Windows 11 PC and is asking for a PIN that is not being accepted. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Confirm the USB connection type
Make sure you are using a standard USB-A to USB-B printer cable.
Some printers don’t support USB-C or micro USB for direct connections, and using the wrong cable can cause errors.

Try a different USB port
Plug the printer directly into a USB port on your PC (avoid hubs or docking stations).
Sometimes ports don’t supply enough power or miscommunicate with the printer.

Install the latest HP driver
Go to the HP support site for DeskJet 4123e and download the Full Feature Driver/Software for Windows 11.
Install the driver before connecting the USB cable if possible.

Check Windows “Add Printer” settings
Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Add device.
Select the printer from the list; if it asks for a PIN, leave it blank or use the default 0000 (some HP printers require this for USB pairing).

Try HP Smart app connection
Open HP Smart on your PC, select “Add Printer,” and choose the USB option.
HP Smart often handles connection PINs automatically.

Power cycle the printer
Turn off the printer, unplug the USB and power cord for 60 seconds, then reconnect and turn it on.
This refreshes the printer’s connection settings.

Check for any pending Windows updates
Sometimes missing updates or system drivers cause USB devices to misbehave.
Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates and install all available updates.

Test on another PC if possible
This helps confirm whether the issue is with the printer or your current PC.
If it connects on another PC, the problem is likely driver or settings-related on the original machine.

I hope this helps.
