HP DeskJet 4152e All-in-One Printer
macOS 15.0 Sequoia

Hello,

I am unable to print from my Macbook to my HP printer. The printer is connected to the Wireless network but not connected to the internet, according to the Wireless connectivity settings I can print out from the computer.

I have tried unplugging the printer from the back while ON for 60 seconds, and restarting.

I have tried resetting the network settings by holding down the Info and Wireless buttons for 10-15 seconds.

I have tried setting it up as a new printer through the HPSmart App. Nothing is working.

On my computer, it says the printer is "idle" and then when I go to print it says it is "offline."

I even confirmed the printer is connected to the internet by emailing a file to the printer, and it printed.

Please help. I print all the time for work. I have printed thousands of pages on this printer with no issues in the past and have no idea how to get it to work again.

Hello @jldragzthem, and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer is connected to Wi-Fi but won’t print from your MacBook. Since you've already tried several good steps, let’s go through a few more targeted solutions to get your HP DeskJet 4152e working again.

Confirm Printer is on the Same Network as Mac

Even though the printer is connected to Wi-Fi, ensure your Mac is connected to the same network band (2.4GHz is preferred for this printer).

  • On the printer, press the Wireless button to print a Wireless Network Test Report.
  • Check the SSID (network name) and compare it with your Mac’s Wi-Fi connection under System Settings > Network.

Remove and Re-add the Printer on Mac

Sometimes the printer queue or driver gets corrupted.

To remove and re-add:

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select your printer and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
  3. Click the plus (+) button to add it again.
  4. Choose the printer that appears with Bonjour or AirPrint next to it.

If AirPrint is not available, download the latest driver from HP: Official HP® Support

Reset Printing System (Optional but Effective)

This clears all printer settings and queues.

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and choose Reset printing system.
  3. Re-add the printer as described above.

Check HP Smart App Status

Since you’ve tried HP Smart already, make sure it shows the printer as Ready and not Offline.

  • If it shows Offline, try logging out and back into the HP Smart app.
  • Ensure your printer is claimed to your HP account for full functionality.

Assign a Static IP (Advanced but Helpful)

Sometimes DHCP changes cause connection issues.

  1. Print the Network Configuration Page from the printer.
  2. Note the current IP address.
  3. Open your browser and enter that IP to access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  4. Go to Network > IPv4 Configuration and set a Manual IP.

Check Firewall or Security Software

Ensure macOS firewall or any third-party security software isn’t blocking printer communication.

  • Go to System Settings > Network > Firewall and temporarily disable it to test printing.

Try Printing via Email (HP ePrint)

Since you mentioned emailing a file worked, this confirms the printer is online.

  • You can continue using HP ePrint as a workaround until the direct connection is restored.

Try a full reset of the printer:

  1. Unplug the printer while it’s powered on.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and wait for it to reconnect.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
