HP DeskJet Plus 4120 All-in-One Printer

Hi everyone!

Today I had power outage and after that the printer did not managed to connect to WiFi. I tried all the ways to do factory reset and to start fresh using the HP Smart application but it fails in the beginning right after insert the WiFi password. I tried connect to WiFi using the WiFi direct but while inserting the PIN code it says it’s wrong. I cannot print even the information page for getting the details on the printer status and the passwords of the WiFi direct. Once I open the Ink cartridge door and close it the screen shows the E and the number zero. Just to mentioned it only happens when opening and closing the ink cartridge door (both cartridge are new). What can I do in order to fix the problem I lost any option to connect to the printer because it does not recognize any connection (WiFi or using cable)

Hi @ttttt7787676786 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet Plus 4120 encountered several connectivity issues following the power outage, along with an error message ("E0") after opening and closing the ink cartridge door. Let's tackle the problem step by step.

1. Reset the Printer

A full printer reset may help restore normal functionality. Follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for about 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

2. Reconnect to WiFi

To reconfigure the printer’s WiFi settings, try the Wireless Setup Mode:

  1. Press the WiFi button and Cancel button on the printer at the same time. Hold them until the Power button starts flashing.
  2. This should reset the wireless settings, allowing you to reconnect the printer to WiFi through the HP Smart app.
  3. Open HP Smart, and select the option to add a new printer. Ensure that your WiFi network is 2.4 GHz, as many HP printers don't support 5 GHz.

3. WiFi Direct Connection

If you are trying to use WiFi Direct, and it is not accepting the PIN, the PIN might have been reset or changed. To find the correct PIN:

  1. Press and hold the Information button (small “i”) on the printer until all the lights blink. This should print a WiFi Direct report, which includes the correct PIN.
  2. You can then use this PIN for the WiFi Direct connection.

Since you mentioned that you cannot print the information page, try this additional step:

  • Hold the Resume button (circle with a triangle) for about 3 seconds to trigger the information page printout. If this fails, it could indicate a deeper issue related to the printer's configuration or hardware.

4. Error Code "E0"

The error code you described ("E0" after opening and closing the ink cartridge door) suggests a possible issue with the cartridge installation or communication.

  1. Turn off the printer, open the ink cartridge door, and carefully remove both cartridges.
  2. Inspect the cartridges to ensure they are clean and installed correctly (make sure protective tape is fully removed).
  3. Reinsert the cartridges firmly, close the ink cartridge door, and power the printer back on.

If the issue persists, the cartridges might be faulty or the printer's sensor may be malfunctioning.

5. Connect via USB

To ensure that your printer is functioning properly without WiFi:

  1. Connect your printer to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. Install or update the drivers from HP’s support page if needed, and check if you can print or scan through this wired connection.

Refer to this document: HP DeskJet Plus 4120 All-in-One Printer User manual

I hope this helps.
