Hi @Ikatz95

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that your HP Envy 4500 is connected wirelessly but is no longer printing content from the internet. I’ll be glad to help you troubleshoot this issue.

Check Router Settings

Even though your other devices connect fine, some routers have security settings that may block older devices like your ENVY 4500.

  • WiFi Band: The ENVY 4500 only supports 2.4GHz networks. Ensure your router has 2.4GHz enabled (some newer routers combine 2.4GHz & 5GHz under one SSID, which can cause issues).
  • Security Type: The printer works best with WPA2-Personal (AES) security. If your router uses WPA3 or mixed mode (WPA2/WPA3), change it to WPA2-AES.
  • MAC Filtering: Since you added the printer’s MAC address manually, try turning off MAC address filtering temporarily to see if it connects.

Remove and Reconnect Printer to WiFi

Let’s do a fresh connection:

  1. Factory Reset (Again, to ensure we start fresh)
    • On the printer, press Setup (wrench icon) > Restore Defaults > Restore Network Settings.
  2. Manual Connection via Printer Panel
    • Go to Setup > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard and enter the WiFi credentials again manually.
  3. Check IP Address
    • After attempting connection, go to Setup > Reports > Print Network Configuration Page.
    • Check if the printer has an IP Address assigned. If not, the connection failed.

Alternative Connection Methods

  • WiFi Direct (If Needed)
    • If normal WiFi doesn’t work, try printing via WiFi Direct from your PC or phone (Setup > Wireless Settings > WiFi Direct > Enable).
  • USB Setup via HP Smart App
    • Connect the printer via USB to your PC, open HP Smart, and go to Printer Settings > Wireless Setup. Sometimes this can force the connection.

Router Restart & Firmware Update

  • Restart the Router (again)
  • Check for Router Firmware Updates
  • Check for Printer Firmware Updates (Setup > Printer Update)

Assign a Static IP (If IP is Changing Frequently)

If the printer shows "Connected" but keeps disappearing, assign it a static IP from the router’s DHCP settings.

Final Option: Reset Router WiFi Settings

If nothing else works, some routers retain old connection data and may block the printer. If possible, try:

  1. Changing WiFi Network Name (SSID)
  2. Setting Up a Guest 2.4GHz Network and connecting the printer there.

Let me know what happens at each step, and we’ll go from there!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

These temporary fixes work for a few hours or days, but the issue keeps returning: the printer repeatedly goes offline even with a solid blue Wi-Fi icon. Several home devices are simultaneously unable to print but still can use the entire network and internet, and the rest of the network works fine.

Firmware is updated and the router detects the connection, but the printer simply stops responding. Event logs repeatedly show error 74740 (Network Information).

Setting a static IP directly on the printer's web interface is the only step left to test (DHCP reservation was already active on the router). Restarting fixes it temporarily, but it is not a permanent solution.

All of these steps are always helpful for a temporary solution, but the problem comes back over and over again...
sometimes in 2 or 3 hours, sometimes 1 day, sometimes 1 week... the printer just become offline even with wifi icon still blue.

No other device in the entire house complains about any issue with the wifi network,
not a single computer or smartphone, many devices at home share the printer and all of them face the same difficulty at the same time.

Many devices trying to reach the printer via wifi, and the printer is just not there.

Firmware is always updated since it auto-update is mandatory when the printer is connected most of the time (I never disconnect it).

Printer enter in sleep mode, but even in that period, router detects that printer is still there,
sometimes printer just go away with no apparent reason.

While reading your post, i decided to fix the ip of the printer on the printer config web interface:
This is the only thing that I not tested yet from your response,
but it was always getting the same ip address from DHCP because it's reserved and fixed on router (I will take this test as a possible DHCP client problem...)

I can't get you any clues to reproduce it...:
- just leave ir powered on, connected to wifi router as many other devices at home.
- do some print jobs once in a while for some hours/days, (I'm not printing intensive so, once in a while can take several days.)
- some of the jobs starting with the printer in sleep-mode (printer will wake up automatically)
- using 1 to 8 different devices sharing the printer

Using this receipt I notice the issue, at least 5 or 6 times per month and from the event logs from the printer I can notice that there was a network issue, googling code 74740 it translates to "network information log entry" but don't have any details on it.

ID Event Description
1548 74740 Network Information
1543 74740 Network Information
1542 74740 Network Information
1541 74740 Network Information
1540 74740 Network Information
1538 74740 Network Information
1535 74740 Network Information
1534 74740 Network Information
1533 74740 Network Information
1532 74740 Network Information
1531 74740 Network Information
1530 74740 Network Information
1529 74740 Network Information
1528 74740 Network Information

Troubleshooting tells me to do the same as this response from you, restart, reset, reconfigure, it solves but I don't take it as a definitive solution since I have to restart my printer more oftenly than my laptop.

Hi @Ikatz95

Pallipurath is away for now; however, I'm Hawks_Eye, and I'll be happy to help you out!

I understand the printer stays connected to Wi-Fi, shows a solid blue wireless light, receives the same IP address, and can temporarily recover after a restart, but the offline condition continues to return.

Thank you for providing the additional details and event log information.

Based on what you've already tested, the focus should now be on maintaining a stable network session rather than repeating basic wireless setup steps.

Please try the following:

Since DHCP reservation is already configured on the router, continue testing with a manually assigned static IP configured directly in the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS). This helps determine whether the printer's

DHCP client is intermittently losing communication.

Disable any energy-saving or network-related sleep features available in the printer's settings, then monitor whether the printer remains visible on the network for an extended period.

Access the printer's EWS by entering the printer IP address into a web browser and ensure the Bonjour, IPv4, and Network Services settings remain enabled.

Print a fresh Network Configuration Page immediately after the issue occurs and compare:

  • IP Address
  • Subnet Mask
  • Default Gateway
  • Signal Strength
  • Network Status

If the printer is connected through a dual-band router, verify that it remains associated with the 2.4 GHz network only and is not being affected by band-steering features.

In Windows, remove the existing printer queue and re-add the printer using its IP address (Standard TCP/IP Port) rather than relying on automatic printer discovery.

When the printer appears offline again, check whether the printer's Embedded Web Server can still be opened by entering its IP address in a browser. This helps identify whether the issue is network communication related or printer service related.

The repeated "74740 Network Information" entries indicate network events are being logged, but they do not provide enough detail on their own to identify a specific failure point. The results of the static IP test and EWS accessibility check during the next offline occurrence will provide the most useful information for narrowing down the cause.

Please let us know:

  • Whether the printer remains reachable through its IP address when it goes offline.
  • The result after assigning the static IP directly on the printer.
  • Whether the issue occurs immediately after the printer wakes from sleep mode.

This information will help determine the next troubleshooting path.
