@DAH1113, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Ink Cartridge Errors on HP Envy 4520!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It appears you are facing multiple issues with your HP Envy 4520 printer related to ink cartridges. Here is a step-by-step guide to help address the ink error:

1. Verify the Ink Cartridges

Ensure that the cartridges you have installed are genuine HP cartridges. For your HP Envy 4520, you should be using HP 63 ink cartridges. Check the cartridge numbers and compare them with the compatible cartridges listed for your printer model.

2. Check the Ink Cartridge Installation

  1. Remove and Inspect Cartridges: Open the printer’s cartridge access door and wait until the ink carriage stops moving. Remove the cartridges and make sure there are no protective tapes or packaging left on them. Verify that the cartridges are not damaged.
  2. Reinstall Cartridges: Reinstall the cartridges ensuring they are properly seated in the carriage. Wait for any movement in the printer to complete.
  3. Close the Access Door: Close the cartridge access door.

3. Reset the Printer

Sometimes a simple reset can resolve the issue:

  1. Power Off: Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  2. Unplug the Printer: Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait: Wait for about 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect: Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
  5. Turn On: Turn the printer back on.

4. Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts

  1. Power Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  2. Remove Ink Cartridges: Remove the ink cartridges.
  3. Clean Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
  4. Reinstall Cartridges: Once the contacts are dry, reinstall the cartridges.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
