HP ENVY 5030 All-in-One Printer

Good evening!

I hope that someone can possible help me and provide me with some sanity.

I have an HP Envy 5030 which I have had for about 4 years, and over the last year or so have rarely used. I have had an issue before where the printer said it was connected to the internet, web services and online in HP Smart but I could not ping it, access it in the browser or print. This was about 2 years ago, I did a factory reset and it was fine.

Last weekend I tried printing and could not. I tried via AirPrint, connected it by IP and also by the HP Smart app (I dont have a USB cable for it). Tonight I have exhausted most options and still, I am hitting a brick wall.

Firstly, my symptoms:

  • Printer shows connected and online in both
    • HP Smart app on iPhone & iPad
    • Online when I log in to manage my instant ink
  • I am unable to print via AirPrint or direct via IP using IPP (or even LPD, not that I think that would work).
  • I cannot ping the printer from any device on the network
  • I cannot access the web interface of the printer using the IP address on any device on the network (previous point would be the reason!).

Here is what I have tried so far (in order):

  1. Manually configure the network settings
    • I gave it an IP address not on lease or allocated to any other device on the network
    • I also set it to Google's DNS servers, trying both 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
    • Result: Still connects to web services, shows online on the app and HP Instant Ink, but cannot print, ping or access the web interface 😞
  2. Factory Reset
    • I performed a factory reset, turned the printer off for 60 seconds first and then did it.
    • Reconnected Wifi on automatic, and re-enrolled in web services
    • Result: Still can't print, ping or access web interface.
  3. Manual Network Settings Again
    • Result: Still can't print, ping or access web interface
  4. Manual Network Settings, with a twist...
    • Put the printer on a different IP range & different subnet.
    • Put my Mac, and iMac on the same. Mac & iMac could see each other (pinging) but neither could ping the printer!
  5. Given up 🤐

I know there may be the view that I should 'restart my router' (which I did when I turned off the printer in step 2), however this will not make a difference.

Since HP Smart / HP Instant Ink can communicate with the printer to check enrolment etc and the printer shows it is communicating with HP, I am thinking there is a software issue on the printer.

At the moment I am stuck with an unpingable, unaccessible (via web browser) and unprintable printer.

I am hoping someone can help, or I fear I will have to drive back to the office to just print some documents out😂

Thanks in advance!
