HP ENVY Photo 6230 All-in-One Printer
Other

HP Envy Photo 6230 stopped connecting to wifi. It has now gone to the screen where you select your language and region, then it instructs me to go to HP Smart, then manual setup as HP Smart can't connect to it.

It then says the cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP Instant ink. The printer is enrolled, it just cannot connect to wifi as it won't let me move past this step.

I've tried restarting printer, router, using HP Smart on both my computer and phone, connecting the printer to my laptop using a cable. I've tried removing the printer from my Instant Ink plan to reinstall it but it is not straightforward as I am prompted to cancel my Instant ink plan, and cancelling it takes time.

There doesn't seem to be a wireless restart button anywhere on the printer either.

Please help!

Hi @Pml2906,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Your HP ENVY Photo 6230 printer is stuck on the setup screen asking to configure language/region, then asking for HP Smart setup, but HP Smart can’t detect the printer. Additionally, it shows an error that the cartridges can’t be used until the printer is enrolled, even though it is already enrolled in Instant Ink.

1. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

Even if there’s no dedicated wireless button:

  1. On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel (X) buttons together for 5 seconds.
  2. This should reset the network settings and enable Wi-Fi setup mode (the Wi-Fi light should blink).

2. Use HP Smart App in Setup Mode

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.
  2. Tap “+” to add a new printer.
  3. The app should detect the printer in setup mode (look for “HP-Setup-xxxx”).
  4. Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi.

If the app says it can’t connect, try turning off mobile data on your phone and retrying.

3. Try Manual Setup via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If the printer broadcasts a Wi-Fi Direct network:

  1. On your phone or PC, connect to the printer’s Wi-Fi (e.g., HP-Setup-6230).
  2. Open a browser and go to 192.168.223.1.
  3. This opens the printer’s Embedded Web Server.
  4. Go to Network > Wireless Setup Wizard and connect to your home Wi-Fi.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
