We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

For what feels like the billionth time my printer is yet again offline and refusing to be online no matter how many times I follow the troubleshooting steps, including turning everything off and on again.

Support is only available Monday to Friday when I am working away so I'm posting this in the desperate hope that someone can tell me what to do before I need printing on the 17th.

The printer is on, it is connected to my home wifi. The computer is connected to the same wifi. The router is by the socket in the kitchen and the printer and computer in my home office a floor up and about 10m away.

I print rarely, I do try to follow the instructions to keep the printer on permanently but sometimes I need the plug socket. Almost every time I try to print I get "printer offline".  run the troubleshooter - still offline, turn off printer, computer, router, wait 20 seconds, turn on router, printer, computer - still offline.

The next suggestion is to move the printer closer to the router, which isn't very practical unless I turn my kitchen floor into an office. The location of the router is determined by the broadband socket and I'm using the kitchen as a kitchen.

Is there anything else I can do both to print a document and to stop this happening repeatedly?

It does sound like your options are limited.

For the record -- If the printing on the 17th is important and nothing you do helps, perhaps consider hauling the printer downstairs -- or perhaps even at the top of the stairs -- where the printer can receive a strong enough single to stay online.

The following is not "everything" but it is "some things" and perhaps includes something you have not already tried....

Connectivity, Std

1 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 (device); 1 Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, dual band

The printer supports either 2.4GHz or 5GHz, though not at the same time.

Should your router support it, consider moving the connection from one frequency to the other to perhaps improve the chances that the connection will establish and stay connected.

Next,

Consider

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to assign the printer its own static / manual IP address on both printer and router.

Alternate EWS format (Select newer printers and select Laser Printers)

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Note → If the browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Section Network > Primary Ethernet

Check / Adjust Status > IPv4

OR

Check / Adjust IP Config > IPv4

OR

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Note → If the browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Section Network > Wi-Fi > Section IP Config > IPv4

Notes

  • If your browser security will not allow you to open EWS, try a different browser.
  • It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • If needful and if supported, set the Band Frequency to the frequency you want the printer to use.
  • If you assign a manual / static address on the printer, update your router to reflect the assigned IP address.
  • EWS sections might be locked and require the printer’s PIN number to access.  Find the printer’s default PIN inside the ink cartridge ink cartridge / area, or perhaps on the bottom or back of the printer.  Check your printer’s User Guide first chapter for details – search the document for “ PIN “.

Example - EWS - Network → Wi-Fi

-- Basics --

③  Select section Network

  Select section Wi-Fi

  Switch on Wifi

⑦  Select IP Config

⑧  Complete and then Apply the entries for the IPv4 Configuration

EWS_9135_Network_Wi-Fi_IP_Config_IPv4_6

-- What else? --

The full driver and the HP App support local printing and scanning using a limited wireless connection called Wi-Fi Direct.

General Example -- HP App - Windows - Menu and Options

HP_App_Win_Menu_Options_6

-- What? --

Wi-Fi Direct uses the printer's own wireless radio to make a wireless connection to your computer's wireless.  Your computer must be "in range" of the printer's signal but the router is not used for this type of connection and can stay far away in the kitchen.

Full Driver Printer Software

If you can get it to install, there are advantages to installing the full driver printer software.

I would guess that if your printer cannot maintain a connection to the network, you have not been able to install the full driver printer software using the standard Easy Start installation wrapper.

Presumably the "Offline Only" version of the Full Driver printer software installation package includes the driver software in the package.

The Downloading, Saving, and Installing the "Offline Only" installation might work, though I've never had to test its efficacy without a full network holding things together.

After the software installation package is downloaded on your computer, you might be able to install the software with nothing more than a Wi-Fi Direct connection between printer and computer.

Printer Software - Full Driver

Reinstall the full driver printer software

-- Note --

If you do not want / need the added information, Scroll down to Web Pack Installation

Check / Apply Windows Updates

  • Check / Install any pending Windows Updates
  • If any updates are applied in Windows Updates, Restart your computer and log in

Next,

Uninstall existing printer software

  • Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
  • If your printer software includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
  • Restart the computer and log in.

Install full driver printer software

  • If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

Web Pack Installation - Open Web Page - Full Driver Printer Software

HP Envy 6100 Series EasyStart Printer Setup Software - Offline Use Only

  • Open the Web Page
  • Download, Save, and Install the software.
  • NOTE → If forced to use the "Internet connection required" web pack → If you have issues installing the software, consider using the Microsoft Edge browser to download and initiate / start the installation.
  • If using a USB cable to connect the printer to your computer, connect the cable when instructed to do so, near the end of the software installation process.
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Short Version Done
