Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
No, you do not need to have an HP Instant Ink subscription in order to print documents with your HP printer. The HP Instant Ink subscription is an optional service that automatically orders ink for your printer based on usage, and it helps you save on ink costs by offering different monthly plans depending on how much you print.
You can still use your printer to print documents normally, as long as you have ink cartridges installed and the printer is functioning properly. The Instant Ink service is just an added convenience for automatic ink delivery; it’s not required for basic printing functionality.
Key Points About HP Instant Ink:
If you have an Instant Ink subscription:
- HP tracks your ink usage and sends new cartridges when your printer is running low, based on your chosen plan.
- You can print an unlimited number of pages (based on the plan) with the service, and unused pages roll over to the next month.
If you don’t have an Instant Ink subscription:
- You can still use regular ink cartridges (the ones you purchase at retail) and print as usual.
- Your printer will simply operate like a standard printer without the automatic ink delivery feature.
What Happens if You Don’t Subscribe to Instant Ink:
- If you’re using Instant Ink cartridges and decide to cancel your subscription, you can still use the printer, but you’ll need to replace the Instant Ink cartridges with regular, non-Instant Ink cartridges.
- If you continue using Instant Ink cartridges without an active subscription, the printer might stop working until the service is reactivated or you replace the Instant Ink cartridges.
I hope this helps.
