Hi @Dr_Monkeypunch,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand you’re trying to reset the wireless settings on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w so you can change the Wi-Fi name, and we’ll guide you with the correct steps for this model.
Step 1: Factory Reset the Printer (Correct M29w Reset Method)
This clears ALL old Wi‑Fi settings:
- Turn OFF the printer
- Turn it back ON and let it fully boot
- On the control panel, press and hold the Wireless button + Cancel (X) button together
- Hold for 5 seconds
- The printer will enter reset mode and restore factory defaults
This wipes the previous network and allows you to join a new one.
Step 2: Put Printer Into Wi‑Fi Setup Mode
After the reset, the printer’s Wireless light will blink.
This means the printer is ready to be added to a new Wi‑Fi network.
If it doesn’t blink, press the Wireless button once to turn it on.
Step 3: Add the Printer to the New Wi‑Fi with the HP Smart App
Using your Windows 11 PC:
- Install or open HP Smart
- Click Set Up a New Printer
- HP Smart will detect HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w – Setup
- Select your new Wi‑Fi network
- Enter your Wi‑Fi password
- Wait for the blue light to turn solid
HP Smart automatically sends your Wi‑Fi name/password to the printer.
(HP instructs using HP Smart for Wi‑Fi setup on M29w models.)
