Common problems for Connectivity Issues

HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need somebody to help with a strange issue.

I have changed my network password and tried to reconnect the printer but it was unsuccessful at the first few attempts.

The online support advised to delete all preinstalled HP software and drivers and install all the latest versions of them.

I've done exactly as advised and it resulted in proper connection to my network, scan and fax working but the printing option does not work. Somehow, my Windows 10 does not recognize the print driver since it says "Driver is unavailable".

I've tried to reinstall everything multiple times but the result is the same - scan & fax options are OK but print option dos not work at all.

Please, help!

Hi @NickMak,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! The issue you're facing, “Driver is unavailable” for your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw on Windows 10 (64-bit), is often caused by either:

  • A mismatch between the printer driver and the Windows version.
  • Incomplete or corrupted driver installation.

Here's How to Fix It:

1. Completely Remove Old Drivers

  • Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  • Uninstall all HP printer-related software.
  • Then open Device Manager, expand Printers, right-click your HP printer, and choose Uninstall device.
  • Restart your PC.

2. Download the Correct Full Software Solution

3. Install as Administrator

  • Right-click the downloaded installer and choose Run as administrator.
  • Follow the prompts and connect the printer via USB during setup if prompted.

4. Set the Printer as Default

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click your printer > Manage > Set as default.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
