Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My printer has been printing fine for a year.  I actually printed my member statements on Monday.

As of this morning, the paper will not feed.  It will make the sounds like its trying to pick up the paper.

I have cleaned the feed roller, checked the white gear lift on the left side of the paper tray, used spray air to remove all dust.

Hi @trishdykes

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. Since you've already cleaned the feed roller, checked the gear lift, and cleared out dust, you're clearly ahead of the curve.

Here are a few more steps that might help resolve the paper feed issue on your HP LaserJet 3001dw:

1. Check Paper Condition and Alignment

  • Remove the paper stack and inspect for curled, bent, or wrinkled sheets.
  • Fan the stack to prevent sheets from sticking together.
  • Ensure the paper guides are snug but not tight against the paper.

2. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on. This can reset internal sensors.

3. Verify Paper Settings

  • On your computer, open the HP Smart app or printer driver settings.
  • Make sure the paper type and size match what’s loaded in the tray.
  • Mismatched settings can cause the printer to reject the paper.

4. Print a Fuser Cleaning Page

  • Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) via HP Smart.
  • Navigate to Tools > Utilities > Print Quality Toolbox.
  • Select Clean the Fuser to remove any toner buildup that might affect feeding.

5. Inspect Pickup Roller Mechanism

  • Even if cleaned, the roller might be worn out. Check for smoothness or shine—if it’s slick, it may need replacing.
  • You can find replacement rollers online or through HP Parts Store.

6. Firmware Update

  • Visit the HP Support page to check for the latest firmware.
  • Outdated firmware can cause erratic behavior, including feed issues.

Visual Guide

HP has a helpful video walkthrough for paper feed issues on this exact model. You can watch it on YouTube here.

If none of these work, it might be time to consider servicing the pickup assembly. Want help locating the part or checking warranty status?
