My company has a LaserJet Enterprise M406 that, despite our best efforts, will not connect to the network when connected through an unmanaged switch. When connected directly through the wall port, or through the pass-through port on the desk VoIP phones it will connect, but not when the additional switch is added.
Testing I have tried so far:
1) Connect directly to wall/cubicle port - Success
2) Connect through pass-through port on VoIP phone - Success
3) Connect through unmanaged switch - No IP assignment from DHCP, manual IP assignment does not receive/send any traffic.
a) Have tried several models of unmanaged switches (3Com, NetGear, all 10/100/1000) with the same result
b) Cables used have been verified to be straight cables (not crossover) and continuity tested. All are Cat 5 or greater (Cat6 from primary switch to wall/cube port) at lengths of less than 10 feet.
c) Have confirmed I can get DHCP IP assignments and successful network traffic from the same switch ports and cables using other devices
4) Complete factory reset has not resulted in any success
5) MAC table protection is not applicable in the wall/cubicle ports used, so the primary switch is not limiting the number of MAC addresses allowed per port.
6) Tried manually setting port speed on the printer with no successful results.
I am officially stumped, as the printer should not even be aware that an unmanaged switch is involved in the connection. I can't even think that the NIC in the printer is broken since it does function on some level.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
