Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP M604

Printer is on a large network, connected to what is presumed to be a managed switch. Spontaneously it lost network. When connected through dumb switch to same LAN port, the printer is pingable, prints and stays on the network. Likewise peer-to-peer to a laptop. When connected directly to its LAN port it is briefly on the network, then it is not. There are NO IP CONFLICTS and I've tried all link speeds. Firmware is updated, cold reset performed and nothing has had an impact. No errors are present. Last event in log was a new toner (non-HP). Embedded LAN appears fully functional and it seems to be an auto negotiation problem. I've never had an HP failure with these symptoms. Formatter? Or is this an NVRAM issue (DC controller?)? I've noticed that there is no longer an NVRAM reset on this series. I've been repairing printers & networking since the HP II; this is new to me. Corporate IT says it's the printer because their handheld tester checks the port out as good. Anomaly: Same model printer on same network with Auto negotiation 'On' shows Port Config at 1000TX Full, whereas this printer - despite selecting Auto myself in the web interface - displays a Port Config of 100TX Full on the Configuration page printout.
