HP Neverstop 1001nw
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Assigned static IP address to HP Neverstop.  HP Neverstop is available on the local wired network.  Printer was manually installed and works from multiple Windows 10 PCs (which has drivers available for download) via both USB and Network wired print by IP Address. When I attempt to install via USB on Mac OS (Macbook Air) the default Airprint drivers are all that are available.  When I attempt to install via Network on Mac OS (same Macbook Air) I cannot find a driver to install so that this Neverstop can be found in the Location list during the printer setup in Mac OS.  As of now I have the HP Neverstop hooked up via ethernet cable to the local network and the ONLY way I can install any this printer on any MacOS device is by using Airprint.  I just want to install this printer with driver in MacOS and then manually set up a USB and a Networked connection from the Macbook air using the IP address I have statically assigned.  I think if I could find an actual driver (piece of installable software specific to this printer) I could accomplish my task.  Also, I tried the HP Smart App multiple times...that installs and loads initially but after I attempt to use it to setup this printer the app stops responding and all I get is a blank white screen.  Again, if I could find some specific driver software for this printer and I could install and set up printer manually in Mac OS I believe I would accomplish my goal.  I really want to keep this printer and one of the reasons I chose it was due to the wide variety of connection methods but if my only option to connect to a networked wired printer in Mac OS is Airprint I am really disappointed.  Does anyone have experience and can share the "magic" steps and software to install the HP Neverstop printer in Mac OS without AirPrint?  Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting a printer driver issue, follow these steps to fix the issue:-

Remove and add the printer using Airprint

Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences.

Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Click the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then delete the printer.

Select printer and click the minus sign

Click the Plus sign, and then click Add Printer or Scanner.

Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

Click Add to add the printer to the list.

Try to print.

Update macOS on Mac

  1. From the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, choose System Preferences.
  2. Click Software Update.
  3. Click Update Now or Upgrade Now
