Hi @JOSE0407,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I hope this helps. If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8139 printer is having trouble waking up and starting to print, there could be several potential causes. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Power and Connections
- Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check Power Source: Ensure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power strip or surge protector, which can sometimes cause power issues.
2. Update Firmware
- Firmware Update: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware. You can check for updates on the HP Support website or via the printer's control panel.
3. Check Printer Settings
- Sleep Mode Settings: Access the printer settings to check and adjust the sleep mode settings. Ensure that the sleep mode isn't set to activate too quickly.
- Energy Saving Settings: Sometimes energy-saving settings can cause the printer to be slow to wake up. Adjust these settings if necessary.
4. Check Network and Connectivity
- Network Connection: Ensure your printer is properly connected to your network if you're using it wirelessly. A weak or intermittent network connection can cause delays.
- Reconnect to Network: Try disconnecting the printer from the network and then reconnecting it.
5. Print Queue Issues
- Clear Print Queue: Sometimes, jobs stuck in the print queue can cause problems. Clear the print queue from your computer.
- On Windows, go to Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select See what's printing. Then, cancel all documents.
- On macOS, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer and open the print queue to cancel all documents.
6. Restart Devices
- Restart Printer and Computer: Restart both the printer and the computer to refresh connections and settings.
7. Reinstall Printer Driver
- Driver Update/Reinstallation: An outdated or corrupt driver can cause issues. Download and install the latest driver from the HP website.
- Uninstall the current printer driver from your computer.
- Download the latest driver from the HP Support website.
- Install the new driver and follow the setup instructions.
8. HP Print and Scan Doctor
- HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website. This tool can automatically diagnose and fix many common printer issues.
9. Reset Printer
- Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can reset the printer to its factory settings. Note that this will erase all current settings and preferences.
- Access the printer's settings menu, navigate to Printer Maintenance or Restore, and select Restore Factory Defaults.
Take care and have a good day.

I am having the same problem. The only way I can get it to start working is by unplugging the printer and plug back in to reboot. My printer is attached directly to the network, not wifi.
