Offline Condition

Although the printer appears to be switched on, it does not communicate with other devices on your network.

What you do to correct the issue depends on the underlying cause.

Microsoft - Troubleshooting offline printer problems in Windows

Consider >> Restart All

Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network

Next,

If your printer is assigned a manual / static IP address it is better able to find its way back onto the network.

If you can use it, consider Ethernet -- it's generally more stable.

Make sure your router is updated and configured correctly for the type of connection you are using.

Yes, I know.

People do sometimes ignore their routers.

A weak, outdated, poorly configured router is the bane of any network.

If you are forced to use Wireless, add printer and router placement to the list -- obstructions, distance, interference, too many devices, too much load -- these can impact connections.  If the printer suffers when using 5GHz, move the printer over to the 2.4GHz frequency.  A little slower is always better than fast and flaky.

Consider using an assigned (static, manual) IP address to improve stability and provide the printer the means to find its way back onto the network should it become disconnected.

User Guide - HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e Series

Start here:

Reset the Printer - Page 90

The instructions say to leave unplugged for at least 15 seconds.

If you can stand it, perhaps leave the printer unplugged for 60 seconds.

Next,

Go to Restore Settings - Page 109

Restore the network settings to their defaults.

Note

Lacking any type of network connection, yes -- you'll have to use the printer's control panel to configure the settings.

  HP printer setup (Wi-Fi Direct)

If you can get the printer to connect to your network at all, even temporarily, you can try using the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to change the settings over to a working IPv4 network connection.

=================================

Printer -- Restore Network / Restore Factory

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Note → If the browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Section General

Restore Default Settings

OR

Restore All Factory Defaults

EWS_9135_Restore_All_Factory_Defaults_7

Example – EWS Setup – IPv4

EWS > HP Document / How-to (Basic format)

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

Alternate EWS format (Select newer printers and select Laser Printers)

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Note → If the browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Section Network > Primary Ethernet

Check / Adjust Status > IPv4

OR

Check / Adjust IP Config > IPv4

EWS_9135_Network_Primary_Ethernet_Status_IPv4_3

OR

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Note → If the browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Section Network > Wi-Fi > Section IP Config > IPv4

 EWS_9135_Network_Wi-Fi_IP_Config_IPv4_6

Notes

  • If your browser security will not allow you to open EWS, try a different browser.
  • It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • If needful and if supported, set the Band Frequency to the frequency you want the printer to use.
  • If you assign a manual / static address on the printer, update your router to reflect the assigned IP address.
  • EWS sections might be locked and require the printer’s PIN number to access.  Find the printer’s default PIN inside the ink cartridge ink cartridge / area, or perhaps on the bottom or back of the printer.  Check your printer’s User Guide first chapter for details – search the document for “ PIN “.
