Having trouble getting my OfficeJet to print. The job goes through on the computer, printer says "printing" but nothing comes out of the printer. Tried restarting computer, router, and printer but still getting the same result. We also tried troubleshooting on both the computer itself and the HP support website. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi @DianeCritchlow2,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 4655 printer which indicates that it is printing but nothing comes out, there are several potential issues to consider. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
1. Check the Basics
- Ensure Paper is Loaded: Verify that there is paper in the tray and that it is loaded correctly.
- Check Ink Levels: Make sure the ink cartridges are installed correctly and have enough ink.
- Printer Connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your network or computer.
2. Printer Status and Settings
- Print Queue: Open the print queue on your computer to see if the job is stuck or paused.
- Default Printer: Ensure that your OfficeJet 4655 is set as the default printer on your computer.
3. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and Run: HP provides a utility called "HP Print and Scan Doctor" which can diagnose and fix many issues.
- Download it from the HP support site if you haven't already.
- Run the tool and follow the instructions.
4. Update or Reinstall Drivers
- Driver Update: Ensure you have the latest drivers installed. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website.
- Reinstall Drivers: Sometimes reinstalling the drivers can resolve issues.
- Uninstall the printer driver from your computer.
- Restart your computer.
- Download and install the latest driver from the HP website.
5. Check Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Firmware Update: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP website and update if necessary.
6. Connectivity Issues
- Wireless Connection: If using a wireless connection, try connecting your printer directly to your computer with a USB cable to see if the issue is with the wireless connection.
- Router Reset: Reset your router to ensure there are no network issues.
7. Clear and Restart Print Spooler
Stop the Print Spooler Service:
- Open the Run dialog (Windows + R), type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down and find "Print Spooler".
- Right-click on "Print Spooler" and select "Stop".
Delete Spooler Files:
- Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in this folder.
Restart the Print Spooler Service:
- Go back to the Services window, right-click "Print Spooler" again, and select "Start".
8. Print a Test Page
- Direct from Printer: Use the printer’s control panel to print a test page. This helps to determine if the issue is with the printer or the computer.
- On the printer’s control panel, go to “Setup” > “Reports” > “Print Test Page”.
9. Factory Reset
- Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can reset the printer to its factory settings.
- On the printer’s control panel, go to “Setup” > “Printer Maintenance” > “Restore” > “Restore Factory Defaults”.
