Hello,

I have a HP OfficeJet 5255 all in one printer. I am starting to get fed up. I have to spend 20 minutes each time I try to print something because this thing looses its marbles. Its connected to my home internet and has a static IP address. However when I try to print from a computer or phone it can never connect until I restart the printer. Any suggestions?

Hi @qjschum,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 5255 keeps losing its network connection, and you have to restart it each time before printing. Let’s try some steps to stabilize the connection.

Check Router Settings:

Make sure your router is set to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The OfficeJet 5255 does not support 5 GHz networks.

Confirm that the static IP address you assigned is within your router’s valid range and not conflicting with another device.\

Re-add Printer to Devices:

On your computer and phone, remove the printer and then re-add it using the static IP.

For Windows: Settings → Devices → Printers & Scanners → Add a printer.

For mobile devices, remove and re-add via the HP Smart app.

Update Printer Firmware:

Visit the HP Support site for your OfficeJet 5255 and check for the latest firmware.

Updating often resolves Wi-Fi stability issues.

Set Printer to Always On / Disable Sleep Mode:

On the printer control panel, go to Setup → Preferences → Energy Settings.

Set it so the printer does not fully power down or disconnect from Wi-Fi when idle.

Assign Reserved IP via Router (Optional):

Instead of setting a static IP manually on the printer, configure your router to reserve an IP for the printer.

This avoids conflicts and keeps the printer stable on the network.

Restart Router & Printer Together:

Power cycle both devices, then reconnect the printer to the Wi-Fi using the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer.

I hope this helps.
