Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Microsoft Windows 11

My HP OfficeJet 7720 Wide Format printer goes offline whenever the printer engages the Power Saver Mode after 5 minutes.  I have reloaded the drivers.  I have checked for printer f/w updates - there are none.  I have changed the printer to a static IP address.  All to no avail.  It keeps happening and I keep needed to reboot the printer.

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Norman

I should note that the printer f/w does not offer a way to disengage/disable the Power Saver mode.  I looked.

@Norman, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

You've already taken some great steps, setting a static IP, reinstalling drivers, and checking firmware updates. Since the printer goes offline after entering Power Saver mode and there's no option to disable it via the firmware, here are a few additional steps that may help:

Prevent Windows from Power Saving the Printer Port

Sometimes Windows may power down the network adapter or USB port used by the printer.

  • Press Windows + X → select Device Manager
  • Expand Network Adapters
  • Right-click your active adapter → Properties
  • Go to Power Management tab
  • Uncheck: “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”
  • Click OK

Set Printer to Use WSD Port (or switch to TCP/IP if already WSD)

WSD ports can be unreliable with sleep mode. Try switching to a Standard TCP/IP port:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click your printer → Printer Properties
  • Go to Ports tab
  • If it’s using WSD, click Add Port → choose Standard TCP/IP Port
  • Enter your printer’s static IP address
  • Finish the wizard and select the new port

Disable SNMP Status Monitoring (Optional)

SNMP can cause offline status if the printer sleeps.

  • In Printer Properties > Ports, click Configure Port
  • Uncheck: “SNMP Status Enabled”
  • Click OK

Assign Static IP Outside DHCP Range

Ensure your static IP doesn’t conflict with DHCP-assigned addresses.

  • Log into your router
  • Reserve an IP for the printer outside the DHCP range (e.g., 192.168.1.240)
  • Set that IP manually on the printer via Settings > Network Setup > IP Settings

Optional: Use HP Smart App for Better Wake Handling

HP Smart can sometimes wake the printer more reliably than Windows.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
