Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My HP OfficeJet 8710 stopped connecting to the wifi this afternoon.  It will recognize the network, but will not connect.  I turned off and turned back on, unplugged and plugged back in, tried signing into the network, reset network settings, and updated the firmware. Where do I go from here?

Hi @West28

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can understand how frustrating it feels when the printer recognizes your Wi-Fi but refuses to connect, especially after you’ve already tried restarting, resetting, and updating the firmware.

Thank you for the effort you’ve put in—it shows real persistence. Let’s go step by step to get your OfficeJet 8710 back online.

Steps to Resolve Wi-Fi Connection Issue

Check Router Settings

  • Make sure your Wi-Fi is broadcasting on 2.4 GHz. The OfficeJet 8710 does not connect to 5 GHz networks.
  • If your router uses both bands, ensure the printer is connecting to the 2.4 GHz SSID.

Verify Password Entry

  • Re-enter the Wi-Fi password carefully.
  • Ensure there are no extra spaces or special characters that may cause rejection.

Assign IP Address Manually

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Wireless Settings > Advanced Settings > IP Settings.
  • Choose Manual and enter an IP address within your router’s range (for example, if your router is 192.168.1.1, set the printer to 192.168.1.50).
  • Enter the correct subnet mask (usually 255.255.255.0) and gateway (your router’s IP).

Restart Router and Printer Together

  • Power off your router and printer.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Power on the router first, then the printer.
  • This ensures the printer gets a fresh handshake with the network.

Update Network Drivers on Windows 11

  • On your PC, open Device Manager.
  • Expand Network Adapters.
  • Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter and select Update Driver.
  • This ensures smooth communication between the printer and your computer.

The most common cause is the printer trying to connect to the wrong band or not receiving a valid IP. Once you confirm the 2.4 GHz connection and, if needed, assign a manual IP, the printer should connect successfully.

Would you like me to also share how to run the Wireless Network Test Report directly from the printer’s control panel? It prints a page showing exactly why the connection is failing, which can speed up the fix.
