Common problems for Connectivity Issues

My printer goes offline constantly and only way to get it to work is to delete it and reinstall.  That worked fine for a few times but now it cannot find the printer.  Then when the printer was finally found, the printer cannot connect to the laptop, even though both are on the same network.  This is becoming very frustrating.  Currently I have it connected by an internet cable to the laptop.  Printed once, then comes up saying printer has an error.  This printer is not worn out.  We recently got fiber optic installed and now it is even worse with the printer.  GRRRR

The fiber optic service might -- or might not -- be compatible.

Regardless, if the printer was going Offline before this, sure -- the new service type could be related or could be just one more nail in the box.

If you are running a Dual Band Network, this can also complicate things during the initial setup.  That said, after you have created a separate SSID named network for each frequency and told the printer the type of connection and which SSID named network it should use, the connection generally "sticks".

If you have not done so, consider using / assigning a manual / static IP address to help stabilize the printer on the network.

"Worn out" might relate to the printer hardware.  In general, the wireless radio built into the printer does not fail.  Yes, it can do so but hardware failure of this type is not common.

Offline is a particular condition that is related to how the printer is seeking and connecting to the network and how the printer software is able to interact with that process.

Dual Band Network

If your router supports it,

Create a separate SSID named network for each frequency (5GHz and 2.4GHz).

Connect the printer to the SSID network on the frequency / band you want it to use.

Reminder:  Some printers only support 2.4GHz

In general,

  • 2.4GHz is less fussy about obstacles and supports a longer distance between router and device (printer)
  • 5GHz is faster
