HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 All-in-One Printer

HP Officejet 9020 printer is seen and offline from two separate MacBook Pros (MBPs) running macos 15.3.2

While a windows machine has no trouble printing

The macos driver is version 4.0 on both MacBook Pro laptops.

The 9020 is using the wired connection, and the wifi interface is down and unused

The Embedded Web Server interface works fine from both MBPs and the windows machine.

The 9020 firmware version is MANHHIPP1N002.2450B.00 from 2024-12-11

The MBPs and windows server are all wired - there is zero wireless involved in my setup.

Hi @djnoah, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 is reachable on the network but is being reported as offline only on macOS devices. Since the Windows machine prints fine, the issue is likely with how macOS is communicating with the printer. Here are some troubleshooting steps:

Reset the Printing System on macOS

  1. Open System SettingsPrinters & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or hold Control and click) on the printer list and select Reset printing system.
  3. Add the printer again via the + button.

Manually Add the Printer via IP

Since you are using a wired connection:

  1. Find the IP Address of your printer (check the Embedded Web Server or router settings).
  2. Open System SettingsPrinters & Scanners.
  3. Click the + button and select IP at the top.
  4. Enter the printer's IP address.
  5. Set Protocol to HP JetDirect - Socket.
  6. Leave Queue blank and click Add.

Use Apple AirPrint Instead of HP Driver

  1. During printer setup, when selecting the driver, choose AirPrint instead of the HP driver.
  2. Test printing.

Verify HP Software & Update macOS Driver

  1. Go to support page (HP website) and install the latest software.
  2. If the driver version is still 4.0, try removing and reinstalling it.

Check for Conflicting Firewall or Security Settings

Since it works fine on Windows, the macOS firewall or security settings might be interfering:

  • Open System SettingsNetworkFirewall and disable it temporarily.
  • If using third-party security software, ensure it isn’t blocking printer traffic.

Restart CUPS (macOS Print System)

Run the following commands in Terminal:

sudo cupsctl --debug-logging
sudo launchctl stop org.cups.cupsd
sudo launchctl start org.cups.cupsd

Then try printing again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
