HP Officejet Pro 9010 series PCL-3 keeps going offline for my Dell PC while my wife’s MacBook can print. I have to reset the router and modem and then it only works for an hour, a day, or maybe a week.

Hi @Hal_The_Happy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Officejet Pro 9010 series PCL-3 printer is having intermittent connectivity issues specifically with your Dell PC, while your wife’s MacBook is able to print without problems. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue.

Check Printer’s Network Connection

  • Static IP Address: Set a static IP address for the printer to avoid it changing IP addresses when the router reboots. You can assign a static IP from the printer's settings (via the printer’s control panel or the web interface).
  • Network Stability: Ensure that your Dell PC and the printer are on the same network. If you have multiple networks (e.g., a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network), make sure both devices are connected to the same one.

Update Printer and Network Drivers

  • Printer Driver: Ensure that your Dell PC has the latest driver for the HP Officejet Pro 9010 series. You can download it from the HP support site.
  • Network Adapter: Update the network drivers for your Dell PC, especially if you are using a Wi-Fi connection. Check Dell's website for the latest drivers for your Wi-Fi adapter.

Disable IPv6

  • Some routers and devices have issues with IPv6. Try disabling IPv6 on both the printer and the PC to see if it stabilizes the connection.

Router Settings

  • Quality of Service (QoS): If your router has QoS settings, try enabling or adjusting them to prioritize printer traffic.
  • Firmware Update: Make sure your router has the latest firmware updates, as outdated firmware can sometimes cause network issues.

Printer’s Sleep Mode

  • Disable Sleep Mode: On the printer, go to the settings and try disabling or adjusting the sleep mode to prevent it from going into a deep sleep that might affect its ability to stay connected.

Reinstall the Printer on the Dell PC

  • Uninstall and Reinstall: Sometimes, the connection problem can be fixed by removing and reinstalling the printer on your Dell PC. You can remove the printer from your PC’s settings and then reinstall it either via the IP address or using the HP Smart app.

Check for Interference

  • Wi-Fi Interference: Other devices on the same network (or nearby networks) can cause interference. If your PC is far from the router, try using an Ethernet connection or a Wi-Fi extender.

By following these steps, you should be able to reduce or eliminate the issue with your Dell PC losing connection to the printer. If it persists, consider connecting your printer via USB to your PC temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
