HP Printer is connected to Wi-Fi network, but printer says not connected to internet when I try to print. It then says I need to connect to web based services, and asks if I want to select "Yes" for connecting, and when I do I get another kickback that says "cannot connect to internet, followed by a prompt about proxy servers, etc.'. No idea how to fix this issue, but the printer shows its offline on the HP Smart App, and yet on the device itself it shows the wireless network i'm connected to.

@MikeS44, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
This issue typically means your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is connected to your local Wi-Fi network, but cannot access the internet, which is required for Web Services like HP ePrint and HP Smart App functions.
Here's a step-by-step approach to fix this:
Power Cycle Everything
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for 30 seconds.
- Restart your router.
- Turn on your PC and printer again.
Confirm Internet Access
- Even though the printer is on Wi-Fi, it needs access to the internet, not just your network:
- Check internet access on another device connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- If your network uses MAC filtering, firewalls, or proxy settings, it might block the printer.
Check Proxy Settings
Your printer might be trying to use a proxy (common in workplaces or secured home networks).
On the printer control panel:
- Go to Settings > Web Services > Setup or Remove Web Services.
- Tap Proxy Settings.
- If proxy info is there, try clearing it or entering your network’s proxy (if you use one).
Usually, home networks don’t need proxy settings — leave fields blank.
Remove and Re-enable Web Services
- On the printer, go to:
Settings > Web Services > Remove Web Services. - Restart the printer.
- Then go to:
Settings > Web Services > Setup > Accept terms and enable.
Reconnect Printer in HP Smart App
If HP Smart shows the printer offline:
- Remove the printer from HP Smart app.
- Re-add it using the “+” icon and choose the correct printer on the same Wi-Fi.
Assign Static IP to Printer (Optional but Helpful)
This prevents your router from changing the printer’s IP address:
- Find the printer’s IP address from the printer screen (Settings > Network Setup > View Network Details).
- Go to that IP address in a browser to open the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Navigate to Network > IPv4 Configuration.
- Set to Manual IP, then click Apply.
Update Firmware
Sometimes, outdated firmware causes web service errors.
- Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer or use HP’s Firmware Update Utility from the support site.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
