Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

Hello

I am using an HP ENVY 6455e; set up through the HP Smart app with Wi-Fi Direct and my home network. It prints wirelessly just fine until there's a brief power outage or the router resets.  🙂 After that; the printer appears “offline” in the app, and I have to go through the full setup process again.😑

It seems like the printer isn’t retaining network credentials persistently. I have tried assigning a static IP through my router, disabling power-saving options & reinstalling HP Smart on both mobile and PC, but the issue persists.🤔 No other device on my network behaves this way after outages. The printer’s firmware is up to date, and my router is a standard dual-band TP-Link. Checked Troubleshoot a Wi-Fi connection to an HP printer  guide for reference .

Is this expected behavior with HP Smart-connected printers / might something be corrupting memory during loss of power?🤔 I'd appreciate any tips to maintain wireless connection reliability without redoing setup each time power is disrupted.

Thank you !!🙂

Hi @gabrielladawn,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out to us. We understand the inconvenience you're experiencing with your HP ENVY 6455e All-in-One Printer, particularly regarding the recurring offline status after a brief power outage or router reset.

We appreciate the detailed steps you've already taken, including setting a static IP, updating firmware, and disabling power-saving features. Your proactive approach is commendable.

Recommended Steps:

1. Reconfigure Wireless Settings via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Once your printer is connected (temporarily), access its Embedded Web Server to confirm and lock in the network settings.

  • Open a web browser and type the printer's IP address (visible in HP Smart or the router's connected devices list).
  • Navigate to Network > Advanced Settings > IPv4 Configuration.
  • Choose Manual IP, and assign the static IP directly within the printer, not just via the router.
  • Save changes and restart the printer.

This method ensures the printer holds onto its IP and DNS settings independently of the router, improving reconnection reliability.

2. Use a 2.4 GHz Band for Connection

Ensure the printer is connected specifically to your router’s 2.4 GHz band, as the ENVY 6455e does not support 5 GHz networks.

You may want to temporarily separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz to confirm and control which band the printer connects to.

3. Disable Wi-Fi Auto-Shutoff (Energy Saving)

  • Open HP Smart > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings.
  • Navigate to Settings > Energy Settings or Wi-Fi Settings.
  • Make sure Auto-Off, Sleep Mode, or Wi-Fi sleep timer is disabled or increased, so it does not disconnect during idle time.

4. Perform Network Restore and Full Setup Again

If the issue persists:

  1. On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button (📶) and Cancel (X) for 5 seconds to restore network defaults.
  2. Reconnect using HP Smart and verify that Web Services and Cloud Printing are enabled.
  3. Reassign the static IP within EWS as above.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
